Members Events & Benefits


The two regular annual members-only events are

The Annual General Meeting which is held in September at the Art Workers Guild, our current usual meeting place. The 2020 meeting was held as a virtual AGM by Zoom on Wednesday September 16th. The regular business of the AGM is:

  • the presentation of annual report and accounts and
  • the election of officers, committee and hon auditor, plus
  • any other matters which members or the committee may wish to raise.

Subject to this last, AGM business may be transacted quite swiftly. It is followed by a dinner. This may take the form of a buffet at the venue or a meal at a nearby restaurant.

A Christmas Party is normally held in December and takes place in a private room at a public house or wine bar. A formal invite is sent to members and posted in the Members’ area. Regrettably this event could not be held in 2020. The 2019 date was Wednesday 18th December and the venue was the Ship and Shovel near Charing Cross. We trust we will be able to give members details for the 2019/21 party later in the year.

Special Outings The ICEA also arranges other events from time to time. These outings are usually held in the summer months. Past outings have included visits to the Olympic Park at Stratford which was hosted by the Legacy Team and to the London Gateway port project in Essex where the port management explained the operations and business of the port and a trip on the Paddle Steamer “Waverley” along the Thames. The 2018 outing was to Denbies Vineyard in Dorking on Wednesday 6th June 2018. Details of these and other outings can be seen in the Members’ Only pages.

Open Meetings Our regular discussion meetings, led by independent-minded speakers from academia, lending agencies, consultancy firms, the media and other walks of life, are open to guests on payment of a guest fee. The format of the meetings provides ample time for informal exchanges, with guests, with other members and with the speaker.

There are typically two or three out of the nine meetings a year which are addressed by members of the association. This is a special opportunity for in-depth sharing of consultancy and project experience.

The regular meetings and members events provide opportunities for networking with an eclectic group of economists and other professionals.

Other Members’ Benefits

  • A newsletter that is issued once a year
  • An annual, printed, full membership directory
  • Voluntary listing of contact details and curriculum vitae on the Website

The voluntary listing not only provides fellow members with these details but is also accessible to third parties. Members have found that this listing generates enquiries from potential employers, who are referred to this listing, both by the secretariat and by fellow members. Members who have or learn of posts to be filled may also request the secretariat to circulate fellow members by email with details of these.

There is also a “Members Only” area of the Website “with password access
This is essentially a members’ archive. Notices of members’ events are posted there together with other important documents such as recent newsletters and AGM papers (including annual report and accounts), plus some older material including the Constitution and past Members’ surveys.
